Some time around World War II, fortune cookies moved from being a confection dominated by Japanese-Americans to one dominated by Chinese-Americans; they added lottery numbers to the back of the fortune slips and gave them to customers at the end of a meal in restaurants. Today, fortune cookies are served in Chinese restaurants all around the world, and even by some Fortune 500 companies!
